My story beings here….
I say my story begins here because this was a turning point in my life. An uncertain path that changed me, challegened me, dissapointed me but also tested all I had learned in Peru, and thru my mother and her endless teachings. One thing I was always sure about, myself, I believed in myself and no matter how difficult things would turn, I was going to overcome it.
I moved to United States, when I was 19-20, following a dream. A dream that has been in me since I was a little child.
When I told my mother that I was dropping out of Business School in Peru, she told me I was stupid lol. She literally said “What are you going to do there? Sweep floors? You have everything here!”. My answer was “I don’t know what I will do, I guess I will figure it out”.
Well she was right, I did sweep floors, worked in construction, flipped burgers, vacuumed cars, dish washer, etc. I even was homeless and stayed on the streets for a couple nights. I guess you could say I did it all.
The day I left Peru, my mind was very clear that I was on my own from that point on, my mother until then had been my provider, practically disowned me because of my decision.
Life was hard in US. Until then I had never felt what meant to be an immigrant. The first 19 years of my life I was a spoiled brat without the lazy part :). Thanks to my mother, I received a very good education and was well travelled. I spoke 4 languages, had studied 2 careers( Accounting and Business Administration) and even studied in Germany for a few months. Keep in mind that I graduated high school right after I turned 16.
